The Charter Oak Education Foundation got off to a running start this 2018-2019 school year

The Charter Oak Education Foundation got off to a running start this 2018-2019 school year. First, with the September 18 and 19 Drive for Supplies event held at each of the five elementary campuses, and then the 5th Annual Charter Oak Education Foundation Oak Tree Challenge 5K/1 Mile Run September 29.

The parents and students at all five of our Charter Oak elementary schools showed true school pride during our Drive for Supplies contest to see which school would cross the finish line with the most printer and copy paper donated to their schools. All within the COEF Board were proud to wave a checkered flag for Willow Elementary School, the school on top, bringing in 211 reams of paper! A grand total of 422.5 reams were collected when we combine the donations from each school, making everyone a winner during this event. Willow received a $100 Staples gift card and the joy in knowing that they brought in the most paper for their school. Great job, Willow!

Our next Drive for Supplies event on November 6 and 7 was a successful call for boxes of tissue to help keep noses clean.

The weather was perfect during our 5th Annual Charter Oak Education Foundation Oak Tree Challenge 5K/1 Mile Run. We arrived before the sun awoke so that we could receive our 197 registrants at 7am. Debbie Goble and staff served a delicious pancake breakfast for our runners and all who purchased their pancake breakfast tickets in advance. The voice talent of Mark Maverick echoed throughout the stadium, calling our runners to their marks, and keeping everyone informed.

The overall fastest female runner was Megan Dionson. The overall fastest male runner was Erik Starkey. They were wonderful to watch, utilizing their talent and skill while joining their fellow runners in contributing to our COUSD student needs. Congratulations, runners! Thank you for your contribution and participation.

We are so grateful to all who donated items to raffle. Our proud raffle winners were Kelly Eisenbiese who won a gift card, Sherry Brown who won a month of yoga at Yoga Funk, Heather Vogel who won a beach cruiser, and Jacob Flores who won two Disney Parkhopper tickets!

Our event was successful due to the participating runners, the Charter Oak community spirit, and the collaboration of many great people: our COUSD faculty, staff, and volunteers, ASB students, and 30 sponsors who made the event possible. We especially appreciate Beonca Machine, McIntyre Properties, Foothill Transit, Athens Service, Golden State Water, Taco Bell, Covina Chamber of Commerce, Glendora Chamber of Commerce, and Keygent Services for going above and beyond in their service to our schools.

We would like to give a second mention of thanks to our Charter Oak High School ASB students who arrived when it was still dark, helped to get everything set up, and worked like a team without complaint or hesitation--they are a credit to their families, and to our CO community.
