Kids that only want to be in the ensemble and do not want to have a solo or lead part need only sign up. Please plan to attend the Parent Meeting times below. We are a "no cuts" group. Every performer gets a part. We are planning on two casts this summer. All high school graduates 18+ must have an invitation to audition.
Auditions:
Saturday, April 13 ONLY PERFORMERS AGES 4-9 YEARS OLD
2-3 pm Mandatory Parent Meeting - come get all your questions answered and learn about the changes this year.
3-4:30 pm Singing Auditions for kids that want a lead role or featured solo. Kids will be taught a song and will go on stage and sing it a cappella. They can also bring 16 bars (about 30 seconds) of a Broadway or Disney song to sing a cappella instead of the song we teach that day.
4:30-6 pm Dance Auditions - kids will learn a routine and dance in small groups. They are welcome to show us any special skills at this time as well. (Tumbling, tap dance, etc.)
Sunday, April 14 ONLY PERFORMERS AGES 10 AND OLDER

3-4:30 pm Singing Auditions - Prepare 16 bars (30 seconds) of a Broadway or Disney song. Bring your sheet music clearly marked. Singing from the show is welcome. Accompanist provided. If you are going to sing a cappella, you must wait till the end.
4:30-6 pm Dance Auditions – performers will learn a routine and dance in small groups. They are welcome to show us any special skills at this time as well. (Tumbling, tap dance, etc.)
7-9 pm Call Backs for ALL AGES - performers will be notified at regular auditions if they need to attend callbacks
Performers over 18 years old are invited to audition by directors' invitation only.

Early auditions for performers who cannot make it to the weekend auditions will be Tues. April 9 at 7:30 pm.
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals are Thursdays or Fridays 6-9 pm, Saturdays 2-6 pm, Sundays 1-5 pm starting April 20. Not every cast member is called at every rehearsal. Kids 9 and under are usually Saturdays 3-5 pm and Sundays 1-3 pm.

Preview of select group numbers at the “Awesome 80's” End of Semester Recital Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2 pm and 7 pm at Baldwin Park Performing Arts Center

Please attend the mandatory parent meeting before the auditions to get the full details.
This show will cost over $800 per performer, but we are only asking you to pay $450 per performer (additional $225 per child). Additionally, each family is required to do 10 volunteer hours during rehearsals and work at least two shows during the show weekend. Scholarships and financial aid are available for work trade and by need. Scholarship applications must be turned in to the front desk by April 20, 2019.
Material Fee $25.00 per child due April 20, 2019 (for scripts and cast shirts)
Participation Tuition $450 ($225 per each additional child) due April 20, 2019 or can opt for payment plan outlined below.

Roles Available:
Rafiki
A wise mandrill who acts as healer of the Pridelands and guides Simba on his journey home. She is an omniscient character, evincing an air of mystery. Rafiki has significant solos in "Circle of Life" and "He Lives in You," and leads the African chants throughout the show, confident performer with a strong singing voice.

Mufasa
The strong, honorable, and wise lion who leads the Pridelands. Mufasa should command respect onstage and also show tenderness with his son, Simba. Mature actor who can convincingly portray the king.

Sarabi
A featured lioness, Mufasa's mate, and Simba's mother. Sarabi has a few key speaking lines looking for an actor who can deliver the care and command of a queen.

The anxious yet loyal assistant to Mufasa who is always busy trying to do his duty. Zazu's lyrics are spoken rather than sung, and the role can be played by a boy or girl.

The antagonist of the show, overcome with jealousy of his brother, Mufasa, and nephew, Simba. Coldhearted and wickedly intelligent, he will stop at nothing to become king of the Pridelands. A mature performer who can bring out this villain's dark side while handling Scar's sarcastic sense of humor. As his solos can be spoken, opting for an actor over a singer.

Young Simba
The protagonist of the story, is an adventurous and endearing cub who can't wait to be king of the Pridelands. Simba is playful, energetic, and naive, but after his father Mufasa's death, Simba struggles with shame and his destiny. Looking for a strong singer and dynamic performer in this role.

Grows from a cub to lion in "Hakuna Matata." Older Simba has more complex moments as he reunites with Nala, mourns his father, and returns to confront Scar, looking for a more mature actor.

One of Scar's hyenas who plot to take over the Pridelands. She is the sassy one of the trio and is always looking out for herself. With Banzai and Ed, she should be able to laugh loudly and long, as well as be menacing to Young Simba and Young Nala.

?Banzai
A slick yet childish hyena who works for Scar. He would be the leader of the group if hyenas weren't so lazy. Look for an outgoing and confident actor who can portray nastiness and gruffness. As banzai is always featured with Shenzi and Ed.

The third member of Scar's trio of lackeys. He has a loud, cackling laugh that is his only form of communication. Ed should be played by an actor who can laugh unabashedly and communicate through physicality and facial expressions rather than words. This role can be played by a boy or girl.

Timon
An outcast meerkat who lives in the jungle with Pumbaa. He is afraid of his own shadow, but pretends to be the confident, relaxed leader of the duo. Timon is one of the funniest characters in the show and should be played by a charismatic actor who understands comic timing. This part can be played by a boy or a girl. Tap dancer preferred.

Pumbaa

Scar's army, helping carry out his evil plot to take over the Pridelands. Hyenas are mangy, mindless creatures who sing in "Be Prepared." Hyenas double as animals of the Pridelands or lionesses.

The ensemble plays various inhabitants of the Pridelands, such as giraffes, elephants, antelopes, wildebeest, and other creatures. There are also several moments to showcase individual dancers in "The Lioness Hunt" and "I Just Can't Wait to Be King."
